Should I be Using a Content Management System
Most websites are created using templates as a
static product, one that contained different types of code that made
management a total unbearable. That code - using JavaScript, Flash,
HTML - was very tough for many website owners to handle. You have to
keep webmaster "on the payroll" to make constant updates and changes,
as a result, they were expensive to sustain so, unless a site owner
could handle the task, somebody with the skill, knowledge and software
had to be hired to perform the necessary updates.
Therefore, a need to create a system where website owners could perform
updates such as making changes to copy, image replacement and add
content without knowing any difficult coding. Content
Management System, or CMS, was developed. At the core of the system is
a database where all contents are stored - copy and images can
be retrieved and edited. Every site page is stored as simple
text. The system converts this simple text into the suitable HTML and
JavaScript when a visitor lands on the page. The system also allows for
the integration of a variety of features such as interactive event
calendars; members register with user names and passwords, news feeds,
blogs, photo galleries and more.
If you are having a great deal of problems with your webmaster on
maintaining a static site, it may be time to upgrade and use a Content
Management System. Here are some of the problems associated with a
static website that if you recognize as frustrating, might be that sure
indication it is time to CMS.
Problems
- You have no control concerning updates and either need to
go through your webmaster or not make any at all
- There is no search function available on your website to
allow users to search for specific content
- Limited features - if any - like logins, contact or request
forms, forums, blogs, mailing lists, calendars ort other interactive
features that elevate the level of user-friendly available content
Solutions
- Install an open source Content Management System (CMS)
- Transfer all your available content to the new system
- Learn how to use the system to perform your own maintenance
(Can you use Word?)
So, what are the benefits from using a CMS?

First, you gain the capability to manage, update, change add or delete
your own content, and moreover, by using a CMS, you will be displaying
content that conforms to present web standards. Which is essential?
Using web standards will increase your ease of access allowing for your
content to not become outdated. Whenever an upgrade is issued for the
CMS, installation is normally but a "click" allowing your site to stay
in web compliance. Furthermore, Content Management System has embedded
site search capabilities.
On this website I will try and help as much as I can on how to use
different types of Content Management Systems and have videos to help
you understand exactly what you need to do and how to make changes. This Website Portal is perfect example of how a Free resource Content Management System can be used and is based on Phpnuke Platinum.

The Silver Stripe CMS Impresses Both Web Editors and Designers As Well
In the world of content management systems, (CMS), it's typical for many systems to satisfy the needs of either the webmasters that enter content into a website, or the developers that create the functional elements of the CMS. Many CMS platforms exist, and do a fairly good job of delivering the means to publish a professionally designed website but, in some form fail to be a complete tool that so many webmasters desire. There is although, a New Zealand-based CMS called Silverstripe that's generating lots of buzz due to its ability to impress both web developers and content managers at the same time.
